Butch Findley grew up in the Corpus Christi area and fished the bays all his life.

 After two tours of duty in Vietnam in the Marine Corps, he completed a bachelor’s degree in biology at University of California. On a visit back to Aransas Pass, he decided to return to Texas, and he took a job as a research assistant at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute. After several years, he began commercial fishing in the bays for drum and flounder. In 1984, he completed his captain’s license and began life as a charter boat guide. For forty years he has guided clients in both the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. He knows all of the best hotspots both inshore and offshore. 

Today, Captain Butch runs a 17-foot shallow-water jet boat called the Shadow, for bay fishing for redfish, black drum, and flounder. The Shadow can hold two or three fishermen. He also owns a 23-foot center-console Scout boat for fishing in the gulf. It can hold up to four clients and is perfect for calm summer weather. The main targets are red snapper, king mackerel, and ling.
